This notice explains how privacyally.co.uk collects and uses your personal data, and the rights you have under UK data protection law. We have tried to keep it plain and specific rather than relying on the usual legal padding.

Who we are

privacyally.co.uk (“we”, “us”, “the site”) is operated by from in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the “controller” of your personal data, which means we decide how and why it is processed.

What this notice covers

This notice covers personal data we collect through this website. It does not cover any third-party websites we link to, which have their own privacy practices.

The personal data we collect, and why

1. Website analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.

  • What we collect: information about your visit, such as the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, your approximate location (derived from your IP address, which Google truncates), and your device and browser type. GA4 uses cookies and a randomly generated identifier to do this.
  • Lawful basis: your consent. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them through our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time.
  • How long we keep it: GA4 retains this data for 16 months, after which it is automatically deleted.

2. When you contact us

If you email us or use a contact form, we process the information you provide so we can respond.

  • What we collect: your name, email address, the content of your message, and anything else you choose to include.
  • Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in responding to and managing enquiries. If your enquiry relates to a service, we may also process it to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • How long we keep it: for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you get back in touch. We then delete it.

3. Email updates

If you sign up to receive email updates, we process your details to send you the emails you asked for.

  • What we collect: your email address and name, if you provide it.
  • Lawful basis: your consent, given when you sign up.
  • How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Who handles it: these emails are sent through our email provider, Kit], which processes your details on our behalf.

4. Comments

If you leave a comment, we collect the comment itself and the details you submit with it.

  • What we collect: your name, email address, the comment content, and technical information such as your IP address and browser, which WordPress records to help detect spam.
  • Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a moderated comments section, including spam prevention.
  • How long we keep it: comments and their associated data are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments make sense, unless you ask us to remove them.

Cookies

The site uses a small number of cookies. Cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to function are always active. Non-essential cookies, including those used for analytics, are only set if you give your consent through the cookie banner. You can accept, decline, or change your preferences at any time using the banner.

Who we share your data with

We use a small number of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and only on our instructions:

  • Website hosting: Cloudnext UK
  • Analytics: Google
  • Email updates: Kit.com

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

We may disclose personal data if we are legally required to do so, for example in response to a valid request from a public authority.

Sending data outside the UK

Some of our providers, including Google, may process your data on servers outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where this happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances;
  • ask us to restrict how we use your data;
  • object to our processing where we rely on legitimate interests;
  • ask us to transfer your data to another provider (data portability); and
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent, without affecting processing that has already taken place.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this notice from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, and the “last updated” date at the top will be revised.
